Employee Spotlight: Chris Honegger
Name: Chris Honegger
Position: Chief Engineer
Years at Rethceif: 8
How would you describe your role at Rethceif?
I am one of three owners responsible for overall business strategy and direction of Rethceif Enterprises. My day to day responsibilities revolve around new product development and engineering practices.
What attracted you to Rethceif?
I was drawn to Rethceif because of the opportunity to fulfill two of my life goals – small business ownership and designing/building machinery. I never thought it would be an easy road because I saw the struggles and hard work my father and grandfather endured in owning a small business. The hard work at Rethceif has been worth it, though, because I get to do what I’m passionate about every day. Also, the team at Rethceif is the best of anywhere I have worked. Everyone is gifted in one area or another and their unique personalities make it a fun and interesting place to work.
Where did you receive your education?
- AAS, Automated Manufacturing Technology, 1989, Indiana Vocational Technology College
- BS, Electrical Engineering, 1993, Purdue University
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I have a smoking-hot wife, Christy, who sings in the church choir at the church we’ve been attending for 18 years. We’ve been married 19 years and have one son, Hank (a teenager with genius capability who is working to reach his full potential). Rounding out our family is our dog, Angel (half Labrador Retriever and half Austrialian Cattledog). She is an excellent Frisbee dog and it is nice to wind down at the end of a hard day playing fetch with her. We are a somewhat quiet family and enjoy spending time with close friends and family. Our favorite place to vacation is the Smoky Mountains. We also enjoy taking road trips in our Jeep with the top down. (Technically we are ORP’s – Off Road Posers - who never take our Jeep mudding. I’m too much of a clean freak for that!)
What are some of the jobs that you have had over the years?
Some of the jobs that I had in my younger years to pay for college and stay out of trouble included: a paper route, soil sampling, hydraulic press clean-up (pit crew), detailer at a new car dealership, pizza maker, handy-man for Council on Aging, middle school football coach, summer residential paint crew, grocery store stocker, and an engineering co-op.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I enjoy staying active by playing ping pong with my son, running, cycling, swimming, and participating in 5Ks, 10Ks, and sprint triathlons. I also enjoy a good mental challenge whether it’s a Sudoku puzzle or a good psychology book (Malcolm Gladwell fan).
State an interesting fact about yourself.
I ran and won the Race Around Wells points challenge two years after surviving an aortic aneurysm.
